Leaders, connecting your teams to their organizational purpose WILL change their behavior.
In a study conducted by Adam Grant of Wharton, lifeguards read 4 stories of either:
1) how other lifeguards had benefitted in the future from the skills they learned lifeguarding, OR
2) how lifeguards had rescued drowning swimmers
The second group of lifeguards' helping behavior increased 21%.
They signed up for 43% more hours of work.
From a (strategic) 30-minute story-time.
How are you helping your people connect to their work's true purpose?
Eva Rose Daniel says "you can't talk about vision too much", and recommends using the following framework to communicate:
- State the vision
- Past
- Present
- Future
- Call to action
I get a kick out of helping people improve their systems and insights, but my true purpose in this work is helping founders succeed in growing their brands and ultimately expanding access to better-for-you foods.
Story as described in the excellent book, The Power of Moments, by Chip Heath and Dan Heath.
