Channel in CPG Financials

How much money are you actually making when you sell on Amazon? Are you getting the channel insights you need? The data may not exist. Dimensions are important: They are tags. Metadata for your financials. They're called dimensions, because they give your financials SHAPE. Channel is the most useful dimension for CPG, but not everyone uses it. Adding complexity to your Accounts is NOT best practice, i.e.: 4010 Sales Revenue - Shopify $$ 4020 Sales Revenue - Amazon $$ 4030 Sales Revenue - Retail $$ Three rows just to report revenue. Vertical complexity and visually, hard to keep up with. Building an insightful model with this set-up will likely frustrate you. Instead, add dimensions, so you can stratify. Here is a simplified example. Even QuickBooks Online can do this.
